e-Flors is a joint initiative of the IIiA's Broadband Communications and Distributed Systems group (BCDS) and the Girona city council. Its main goal is to provide visitors to the annual flower exhibition "Girona Temps de Flors" with a location service. e-Flors is available on mobile devices and is based on Augmented Reality technology.

Augmented reality is an emerging technology in the field of ICT which combines real world data (information about physical objects) with computer generated content (virtual objects). For instance, images about physical objects captured by a smartphone camera are supplemented with synthetic information like graphics or multimedia contents in real time. Thanks to this combination, more information is available about the objects being observed.
Researchers at BCDS have developed a service called e-Flors which integrates into LAYAR, an Augmented Reality platform for mobile devices. e-Flors allows visitors at the annual flower exhibition "Girona Temps de Flors" endowed with smartphones to receive extra information about the exhibitor  being shot: name, location, category ... This information is superimposed on the video footages being captured by the smartphone's camera. e-Flors takes into account the location and the orientation captured by the GPS and compass sensors in the smartphone.

e-Flors also provides visitors with maps and lists of the exhibitors.
