On 3 November representatives of Schiedam, the Netherlands, presented their smart city strategy to students and teaching staff of the Master's degree in Smart Cities. Every course the students enrolled in the master's degree develop practical projects aimed at solving challenges posed by a city active in the smart cities arena. Schiedam is the city involved in the current edition of the master's. Leonie Hulshof, Coordinator of European Affairs at the Municipality of Schiedam, and Stefanie Jacobs, officer in charge of the Smart City strategy, presented 14 challenges in areas such as smart data integration, waste management, and maximizing use of public parks by means of IT.
During the session, a video of Mr. Cor Lamers, Mayor of Schiedam, welcoming the students was projected and Mr. Carles Puigdemont, Mayor of Girona, signed a collaboration agreement between Girona, Schiedam and the University of Girona.
