2nd edition of MSc in Smart Cities starts

On 18 September the second edition of the University of Girona's MSc in Smart Cities started. Lluïsa Marsal, Director of the master's degree, Joaquim Salvi, Director of the Polytechnic School, Ramon Moreno, Vice chancellor of the University of Girona (UdG), Carles Puigdemont, Mayor of Girona, and Joan Carles Sánchez, Mayor of Sabadell, participated in the official inauguration ceremony. Every course, a city is in charge of defining the smart cities challenges the students  will have to address. These range from smart town planning, to energy efficiency measures to improving citizens' involvement in the decision making progress. The Girona City Council, the main sponsor of the master's degree, defined the challenges of the first edition and is currently assessing how to implement the solutions provided by the students. Sabadell will pose the challenges for the 2014 - 2015 term. During the ceremony, the Girona City Council, the Sabadell City Council and the University of Girona signed and agreement by which Girona and Sabadell become sister cities and share the solutions developed in the master's degree. At the end of the ceremony, took place the graduation of the students of the 2013-2014 edition.
