VITAM: Video Teleassistance and Monitoring

ViTAM (Video Teleassistance and Monitoring) provides the elderly, disabled people, patients needing long-term care, and socially excluded individuals with a tool to interact with administrations (national health systems, social workers), clinical staff (physicians, specialists, physiotherapists, nurses) and other users (relatives and other patients).

ViTAM features a new and versatile videoconference core designed for tablet computers and desktops. It runs on the main operating systems (Windows, Mac OS X, Android and iOS) either as a native application or through a web browser. Besides, ViTAM offers an intuitive interface suitable to meet the requirements needed in different real situations (multi-conference, request-based rendezvous). The specialist's video and audio may be turned on without any involvement on the patient's side. No other videoconference system provides this functionality. New functionalities may be easily added to ViTAM thanks to its integration with peripherals (USB, WiFi and Bluetooth). Some examples include: cognitive and physical activities and biophysical measures.

Videoconference

It is used in an innovative way as it allows several working modes and may be customized to different interfaces and workflows:

  • Medical consultation waiting room: given an appointment, the patient must wait until the physician is ready. Only when the physician is ready the videoconference will begin. That is how real life works: patients must wait in the waiting room until the physician is ready for consultation. Besides, the physician can check at any time the patients who are waiting and choose who is going to be the next one.
  • Call centre: The information service manages emergency calls (filtering, forwarding)  in accordance with criteria set by physicians or social workers.
  • Camera remote control: in this scenario the patient is in a severe condition, which prevents him from using IT. We also find this scenario when intensive surveillance is necessary.
  • One to one videoconference (1-1): A user has a contact list. He can interact with any of them as long as both are online at the same time.
  • Multi videoconference (n-n): this working mode is useful in collective rehabilitation sessions (occupational therapy)  and training sessions

Scheduling

ViTAM incorporates an agenda and can send reminders about medical appointments, drug prescriptions and group activities.

Social networks

ViTAM includes a chat service to promote communication among members of the social network.

Telerehabilitation

A physician, social worker or any other professional may follow remotely how a patient is performing physical or cognitive exercises.

Remote monitoring

ViTAM may collect measurements taken by sensors and send them to external systems. ViTAM may be connected to alarms and may be used as a surveillance camera.
