Ferran Torrent obtains PhD

Ferran Torrent, researcher at the eXiT research group and member of the Institute of Informatics and Applications, obtained a PhD on 23 June. Under the supervision of Dr Beatriz López he developed the dissertation 'Optimisation methods meet the smart grid. New methods for solving location and allocation problems under the smart grid paradigm'. This research has several applications. For instance, if a geographical area is to be supplied with electricity coming from renewable sources, Ferran's methods can be used to determine the right number of generators (wind turbines, solar panels), their capacity and location. Companies can also benefit from the new methods developed since they allow them to make decisions taking into account their energy consumption.
